Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen1

Compared to our Dell XPS 15 unit of the same 2018 generation, the display on the ThinkPad leaves much to be desired. But I read that Lenovo put in better, brighter LCDs in the newer generations of the X1 Extreme.

Also, the battery life is markedly disappointing compared to the Dell XPS 15. Apart from those issues, its pretty much the same performance as the Dell XPS 15 since the graphics chip and CPU are identical.

Anyways… some tips:

Wi-Fi card errors

If you're getting LOTS of these errors:

The network interface "Intel(R) Wireless-AC 9560 160MHz" has begun resetting. There will be a momentary disruption in network connectivity while the hardware resets. Reason: The network driver requested that it be reset. This network interface has reset 32 time(s) since it was last initialized.

Intel(R) Wireless-AC 9560 160MHz : Has determined that the network adapter is not functioning properly.

Intel(R) Wireless-AC 9560 160MHz : Has encountered an internal error and has failed.

…causing wifi disconnects and BSODs upon resume from sleep, then replacing the wifi card is the way to fix this. Unfortunately this card uses a funky “CNVi” interface so there are no alternative wifi cards to upgrade to 😞

Fix the constant Windows Camera Frame Server "Stopped working" error

manually upgrade the SunplusIT Camera IR driver from here:

Choose the latest driver. It doesn't matter which “variant”, the CAB files are all the same per version. Once you extract it you will see it is the same layout as the official Lenovo drivers - no INF hacking required, just point Device Manager to the folder for both camera devices:
